Christmas Gift BAGS 2015 – Mission Complete!

Thank you so much for all your generosity. Many of our school families are themselves under considerable financial pressure, especially at this time of year, so it really is profound generosity we see in the pictures below of our very-own Santa-Sleigh (mini-bus).

For some families, the gifts donated by JOA are the only ones that they will receive this Christmas.

Well done and sincere thanks to everyone who contributed!

Y12 A.R.C. Senior Citizen Christmas Party

I would like to congratulate the Year 12 A.R.C team for all their efforts put into running and organising this years senior citizen Christmas party. It was an excellent day and all of our guests were extremely impressed. You really have put the teachings of Christ into practice ‘I was a stranger and you invited me in’ Mt 25:35.

Food Bank Trip

“It is good to help others as the ‘Golden Rule’ is the foundation of our religion which teaches the importance of helping others. The Trussell Trust is a nationwide food bank which is helping people who have met troubled times giving them emergency food for three days. In the parable of the sheep and goats it says ‘I was hungry and you gave me something to eat’. We at St Joan of Arc have actively supported Jesus’s teaching by supporting this charity and we are helping our local community and wish to continue doing so. We would like to say a huge thank you to both year 7 and 8 for their tremendous generosity as they have truly helped so many people in the community. No doubt year 9 will be as great.”

Year 13 Leavers Day

Just before half term we held our Year 13 Leavers’ Day which began with a final Mass which was held at Our Lady’s.  This was followed by an assembly and prize giving which celebrated their time in the Sixth Form.  Refreshments were kindly provided by the PFA.

These events mark the formal end of their time with us at St Joan’s although they will always be part of our community, wherever they go and whoever they become.

It has been a privilege to work and support these young people, most of whom have been with us for 7 years and some have joined us more recently, but I hope they all feel proud of their achievements, academically, socially and spiritually. They have been an inspiration to us all and we wish them every success in the future.

St Joan’s Goes to the Polls!

On the day of the General Election pupils in years 7 to 11 had the opportunity to experience voting in an election. The sixth form common room became the polling station and the sixth formers performed the duties of electoral officials and returning officers. This was the culmination of two weeks of discussions and analysis in tutor time and Citizenship & PSHEE lessons. Pupils were challenged to consider a range of issues that election campaigning raises such as the role of the media, the use of statistics, the question of style over substance and the importance of considering what is best for the common good. Opportunities will be made for pupils to reflect on the results of the actual General Election and how they can continue they own understanding of our democratic system.
