Festa Italo Inglese

Thursday 24th October 2013 saw the first annual Festa Italo-Inglese. Able, Gifted and Talented students in Year 10 at St Joan of Arc met with the four exchange students from the Liceo Sacro Cuore in Milan to show them the ‘St Joan of Arc Survival Sketches’ video. Made during a workshop in July, the aim of the video was to welcome the Italians to British school life and to help them avoid any faux pas! National Competition 2013

Year 8 have been given the opportunity to enter the above national competition. The competition allows students to explore careers in the NHS but more importantly teaches them how to research independently and to extract the key information that will be used in their presentations. These key independent learning skills will stand them in good stead as they research GCSE Options in year 9 and further education and employment choices in the future. The competition is open now and closes on December 20th 2013. By 20th December copies of the students presentation materials must be with Mr Ritchie. He will send them off to the NHS in early January 2014. Mr Ritchie is acting as the students mentor for the duration of the competition

Year 11 Girls’ Fitness Treat!

On Monday 21st October we arranged for a Fitness Coach, Danielle West (one of the Year 11 Girls mums!), to come in and teach a Body Conditioning session for 60 of the Year 11 Girls.

We aim to inspire the Girls in Year 11 with a range of different Fitness Classes that are available and popular within local communities and Fitness Centers.  This will hopefully give them more incentive to stay active and involved in exercise; as this can often become a time when Girls become disinterested and lazy.

This was an excellent treat for the girls to finish their Fitness unit on.  Within the unit we have looked at a variety of fun, exciting ways to stay fit and healthy, including Body Pump, Circuit Training, Aerobics, Zumba, Pilates.

A big Thank You goes out to Danielle for inspiring the girls with her highly motivating, vibrant, stimulating session she ran.  The girls were really buzzing afterwards!  Thank You so much for your time.

Year 11 GCSE Revision Workshop

Liz Shapland (Hertfordshire LA) hosted an excellent workshop on revision methods and strategies for year 11 pupils and their parents on Wednesday 9th October. A packed hall engaged in a very practical approach to planning and organising revision in preparation for year 11 trial exams in January and then GCSE exams in the summer of 2014.
