Year 10 History Trip – Somme 2015

Sixty seven Year 10 History students visited the battlefields of the Somme at the end of June. During our trip we visited cemeteries to the British, Commonwealth and German war dead, trench systems, and a museum. At these locations we witnessed the scale of loss in WW1 on both sides and how deadly WW1 actually was. We also had the opportunity to pay our respects to the war dead for the sacrifices they made at Tyne Cot and also the Menin Gate where we witnessed the Last Post Ceremony. The excellent weather, combined with the mature and engaged attitude of the students contributed towards a great trip.

A.R.C Food Bank Initiative

We would like to take this opportunity to thank Year 9  for all their generosity with supporting the  food bank drive. We feel the food bank is a great cause to support, it has made us aware of the sufferings that people in our local community are going through and it felt great to offer them some support, we found it amazing how grateful they were for our donations. It has also made us aware of how blessed and privileged we truly are. We hope to continue supporting this great cause next year as we feel it has given us an opportunity to actively follow Jesus’ teachings to help those less fortunate ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food’.

A.R.C Food bank initiative

A huge congratulations to Years 7 & 8 for your generosity and to the Year 10 A.R.C students for all their hard work in organising the food bank drive.
In total the amount collected weighed 171.32KGs which is an incredible amount.
The food bank had this to say:
“It is through the generosity of people like yourselves that enables us to continue to provide for local people undergoing crisis. The food bank provided emergency food – containing sufficient food for three days for 1105 people.”
We are sure that year 9 will respond equally well.
We would like to encourage you to think about providing toiletries as the food bank tell us that these are in short supply.
