On the 20th April an intrepid band of AS biologists set out to investigate some of the wild and remote regions of Amersham, courtesy of the Amersham Field Studies Centre. It was tough day with the beautiful sunshine, flowering bluebells and only a warm classroom to retire to if it all became too much.
The serious side to this adventure was to give our budding A level biologists a chance to practice field sampling, and statistical techniques. This contributes to their certificate of practical competence awarded at the end of the A level course.
A selection of photos showing just how tough the day was are shown below. Spot the biological themed Jumper!

Tamara Lawrence, a former student of St Joan of Arc, can currently be seen at the National Theatre, in a biography of legendary Blues singer Ma Rainey. Tamara, who starred in our SSF production of Macbeth and in our school production, The Dracula Spectacula, was one of our highest achieving students in Drama and graduated from prestigious London Drama school RADA last year. The Guardian reviewer describes her performance as “an alluring and professional debut”: Well done Tamara!

Year 12 A’level Art students took part in a weaving workshop with artist Jo Atherton.
Atherton is an artist who creates fascinating and playful tapestries using flotsam and materials found from scouring the coastlines of the UK.
She is fascinated by the curiosities that the tides wash up on to our beaches, the history associated with them, where they came from and who they belonged to.
Jo’s work is currently on display at the Artismeet gallery in Watersmeet until 26th February 2026.More about Jo can be found at www.flotsamweaving.com
Thank you so much for all your generosity. Many of our school families are themselves under considerable financial pressure, especially at this time of year, so it really is profound generosity we see in the pictures below of our very-own Santa-Sleigh (mini-bus).
For some families, the gifts donated by JOA are the only ones that they will receive this Christmas.
Well done and sincere thanks to everyone who contributed!
