Last week our Year 10 GCSE students visited ‘Butler and Sons’ butchers on New Road Croxley Green

Steve Butler kindly demonstrated how to debone and portion a whole chicken. Thank you

Then yesterday the students deboned and portioned their own chicken and they made chicken bites. some also made a chicken stock. In their forthcoming lessons they will make  hunters chicken, chicken wrapped in bacon stuffed with spinach and ricotta cheese and spicy buffalo wings from their whole chicken.

Year 10 GCSE students visited the FOOD: Bigger than the Plate  exhibition at the Victoria and Albert Museum

It explored how innovative individuals, communities and organisations are radically re-inventing how we grow, distribute and experience food.

This exhibition took us on a sensory journey through the food cycle, from compost to table, it posed questions about how the collective choices we make can lead to a more sustainable, just and delicious food future in unexpected and playful ways.

Food bank delivery

Thank you so much to everybody in years 10 &11 who donated items to the food bank We delivered them this morning and they were very gratefully received by Iris Bangs who is a trustee and runs the centre. She gave a us a tour and explained how our donations will be distributed. She really wants everyone at St Joan of Arc to know how much impact our partnership with food bank is making in the local community.

She has asked us to keep them in our prayers particularly as they are about to open a night shelter on a Friday. Iris is truly inspirational. She sees the face of Christ in all and encourages us to do the same.

Battle of the Bands 2018

On Thursday 3rd May 2018, we held our fourth annual Battle of the Bands competition. 8 bands entered from Years 7 right up to year 12 and the evening was a huge success. Well done to all bands that took part and congratulations to Phoenix (Jaimie Dawson, Bridget Mahoney and Paddy Tighe) who were this years winning band, as voted for by the audience. Our comperes (Maria Custodio and Leah King) did a fabulous job of introducing each band. We look forward to seeing you next year

MFL Photo-description Competition 2018

This year, the Languages (MFL) Department launched its first ever photo-description competition – the first of its kind, so far as we know. Students in Year 9, 10 and 11 were asked to submit a photograph based on one of the many themes studied for the language GCSE, along with a description of the photo in French, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish. The star judge was BBC News Picture Editor Phil Coomes. We are proud to congratulate a winner from each year group who were awarded Amazon shopping vouchers (£45, £25 and £15 respectively), thanks to the generosity of the PFA.

Congratulations to all who entered, especially the winners

1st Prize – Orla Breslin – Year 10

2nd Prize – Thomas McQuaid – Year 11

3rd Prize – Callum James – Year 9
